Role Summary: We are seeking a diligent and legally astute Ship Safety Officer with 3-4 years of experience, holding an LLB degree, to join our dynamic team in Kolkata. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with maritime safety regulations and promoting a robust safety culture within our software product development environment, particularly concerning the physical and digital security of our operations and data. This role bridges legal expertise with practical safety implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret and ensure adherence to all relevant maritime safety regulations, international conventions (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL), and national laws applicable to shipping and software operations.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments of onboard systems, software infrastructure, and operational procedures to identify potential hazards.
Develop and implement comprehensive safety management systems (SMS) tailored for the unique challenges of a software product company with potential maritime-related interests.
Investigate all safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Provide training and awareness programs to crew and staff on safety procedures, emergency response, and legal compliance.
Liaise with regulatory bodies, port authorities, and classification societies to ensure all safety certifications and documentation are up-to-date.
Advise management on legal implications of safety policies and operational decisions.
Stay abreast of changes in maritime law, safety standards, and technology relevant to ship operations and software security.
