Established in 1984, the NSG was raised as a federal contingency force to perform 'all tasks,INOIS in the face of terrorism'. The NSG is a specialized organization that has been equipped and trained to combat all manifestations of terrorism and insurgency in India. Its primary mandate includes counter-terrorist operations, counter-hijacking operations, and VIP security. The NSG operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
